Conferred the title of Chairman Emeritus: 25 April 2013A banker with more than 50 years’ experience, Dr Wee had previously served in the positions of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of United Overseas Bank from 1974 to 2007. Throughout his banking career, Dr Wee has been active in promoting education and the development of the community. He received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters from the National University of Singapore in 2008 and a second Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters in 2014 from the Nanyang Technological University. The honorary degrees were given for his long-standing support of education, community welfare and the business community. For his outstanding contributions to the economic, education and community development fields in Singapore, he was conferred The Distinguished Service Order, Singapore’s highest National Day Award in 2011.
